Mighty Bhramaputra this June (2009)

BHRAMAPUTRA means son of lord Bhrama.....this is the only river in India bearing a male name as most of our rivers bear female names. It is a transboundary river of Asia originating from glaciers in western Tibet as TSANGBO,running east through Tibet ,turning south as Dihang(Arunachal-Pradesh) it enters India and flows into Assam valley near Sadiya. It flows approxm. 1800 mile sand finally meets The Ganges and its other dis tributaries to form the largest river delta of the world. This river is an important source of irrigation and transportation.
This view is of our last evenings wallk to the riverside area .Rains are less this year so very less water is seen.
We live in South banks of the river......North side of Guwahati is visible from this end.

  9. I know 2 Indian women in Hawaii -- both divorced with adult children. Amazing that they are doing well despite some hardships.

I stopped in Bombay Airport en route to London back in 1969. It was just 4 hours and very pleasant.

  12. This looks beautiful. I had seen the river in its majestic best in a documentary recently, where 5 bikers traversed Arunachal from its west border to the eastern most tip, without entering Assam. They began the journey from Gauhati. I so want to visit. Hope the day comes soon.

  17. it also has a lovely myth attached to it, "cross the great Brahmaputra once and it's bound to make you come over for another six times,i.e. a total of seven"............wonder how seriously this myth is popular!

  18. I wrote a comment as soon as I saw your post. hmmmm, it is not there. My PC is too slow. You know the reason, the broadband connectionwala is giving?! Honey bees have gone inside the wiring - concealed wiring! I wrote and clicked 'comment' and left the table. When I came back, I must have closed, without checking.

Anyway, the photographs are beautiful, Kavitha. The river is very furious, when flooded, right? Do you know why only this river is male unlike Ganga, Saraswati, Kaveri? Do you know the story?
