War Memorial Namgyal Chorten - 1962 Indo-Sino War

HOW CAN MAN DIE BETTER,
THAN FACING FEARFUL ODDS
FOR THE ASHES OF HIS FATHER
AND THE TEMPLES OF HIS GOD.
This war memorial commemorates the bravery of the indian heros of the INDO-SINO WAR 1962...it is also known as NAMGYAL CHORTAN in local language as the structure is designed as a STUPA.The war memorial is blessed by DALAI LAMA in 1997 who sent holy scriptures and idols of Arya Avlokiteshwara and Lord Buddha.
It has names of 2420 dead soldiers etched in gold on 32 black granite plaques.
A war bunker.....there are countless bunkers one notices if travels by road.

  1. I really envy you. The pristine landscapes must be awesome. Staying in a concrete jungle like Mumbai, I can only dream of going there.

  5. I have never heard of this place before, Kavita. After I started reading your posts, I feel, I don't know anything about a part of our country, Assam. The memorial is beautiful.

Hope to come there one day. Thank you, Kavita.

  6. Thanks Aparna,Ramesh,Lin,Sujata,Sandhya....my main objective of blogging was to let rest of the world know about NORTH EAST REGION of our country....its people, culture, traditions, places everything about it.....i originally belong to uttranchal(nainital,ranikhet,almora)/..my father served these states throughout his life....i owe a lot to this region...it gave me my education, friends and now my family (i am married to an Assamese family)...its my very small effort to do a little about introducing this region to rest of the world in my own way.....i feel good when you all seem to like it......THANKS AGAIN.
